CAREER PROSPECTS with José Castro: Product development
“Career prospects” is a series of talks by IMDEA Nanociencia alumni to give their view of their stay as researchers at IMDEA Nanociencia and their subsequent professional careers, with the objective of providing PhD students a vision for their professional development. The series will be held online in English, and will be open for everyone (no registration required).
José Castro Smirnov completed a MSc. degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the University of Barcelona in 2010. Afterwards moved to the group of Prof. Hernan Miguez at the Institute of Materials Science of Seville (CSIC), where he obtained a PhD in Physics degree in 2015. Research activities were mainly focused on the design, fabrication and characterization of photonic nanostructures. Then, worked as a postdoctoral researcher at IMDEA Nanociencia in the team lead by Prof. Juan Cabanillas. Research topics included fluorescent chemosensors, optical gain emission and stimulated emission properties of conjugated polymers as well as fabrication and characterization of polymer waveguides and laser resonators by soft nanoimprint lithography. In 2017, he joined the company Carl Zeiss Vision GmbH as a R&D project manager in Aalen (Germany) driving and supporting the development of next generation ophthalmic lenses.
