The project "Nanociencia to-go", aimed at an older generation of students, obtains the third best punctuation in the 2018 call for Grants for the Promotion of Scientific, Technological and Innovation Culture.

The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), dependent on the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, has awarded € 3,250,000 to different scientific dissemination projects in its latest call for proposals. The beneficiaries of these grants are the agents of the Spanish Science, Technology and Industrial system, with the aim of bringing science closer to citizens. The theme of this call revolves around the encouragement of STEM vocations in girls and young women, as well as the promotion of activities that celebrate the International Year of the Periodic Table.

IMDEA Nanociencia has obtained one of the best scores of the 2018 call, ranking third of 68 grants awarded in the line of action 1 "Scientific, technological and innovation culture". Projects aimed at society as a whole are presented to this line of action with the aim of bringing research activity closer to, and stimulating citizen participation. IMDEA Nanociencia's "Nanociencia to-go" project aims to involve people over 55, an uncommon audience for the scientific dissemination activities. During the activity, the seniors visit IMDEA Nanociencia research facilities; after the visit, the seniors carry out scientific experiments and interact with IMDEA Nanociencia researchers. The purpose of the activity is for the seniors to take the experiments home and discuss what they have learned with their family, thus arousing the curiosity of future generations. The project team, made up of 60 people including researchers and outreach assistants, aims to involve Universities for Senior Citizen and Centres for the Education of the Elderly, as well as Councils for the Elderly of the Town Councils of the Community of Madrid. IMDEA Nanociencia will count on €8,300 from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities towards the nearly €20,000 of the total budget.
